Between Photographs and Texts

Production and Editing Workshop with Sara Aue Sobol
 Copenhagen June 6–8, 2025

"I want to share my experience with writing—how it began for me, and the authors who continue to inspire me, from both photography and literature. I see a red thread running through the Nordic art scene: in literature, it's called autofiction; in photography, diary images; and in cinema, realism. During the workshop, participants will engage in writing exercises that support and deepen the narrative in their visual work."
 — Sara Aue Sobol

About the Workshop

This three-day workshop is designed to inspire and strengthen each participant’s ability to find a distinct personal voice in photography. It’s for those who want to explore photography as a visual poem, weaving together images and words to build intimate, narrative-driven bodies of work.

We will explore key questions:

  • How do you develop a personal, expressive style?

  • What makes your work unique?

  • When do we express ourselves most honestly through the images we create?

Through conversations, assignments, and editing sessions, the workshop will help you refine a photographic language that reflects who you are. Whether you’re working on an existing project or starting something new, the focus will be on creating images that reveal not just the subject, but the photographer behind the camera.

When you dare to put yourself into your work—your emotions, your doubts, your love—the images become more than representations. They become stories that resonate with others.

Workshop Focus

  • Creating a visual poem through photography

  • Combining images and texts (diary entries, reflections, fragments)

  • Merging time and space in new narrative forms

  • Developing a personal and emotional photographic voice

  • Deepening presence, intimacy, and authenticity in your work
